Welcome to our website

The offices of Culliton & Mescall Solicitors will be closed on Monday next for the Bank Holiday. Normal opening hours resume on Tuesday morning.

Culliton & Mescall Solicitors is a general practice of solicitors situated in the centre of Athlone, Co. Westmeath. The firm was established in the year 1998 by Donal Culliton and Frances Mescall, both of whom continue in practice today, and the firm has since that date provided a wide range of legal services to private clients, families, farmers and businesses throughout Athlone and the surrounding counties of Westmeath, Roscommon, Offaly and Longford.

It is our aim to provide a professional and courteous service to each and every client who comes through our door. We are conscious that many of the matters upon which our clients consult us, whether the purchase of a first home, the making of a will or the breakdown of a marriage, are matters of very considerable personal importance, and that the law can appear complicated and remote to those who do not deal with it every day. For that reason we take the time to explain matters in ordinary language, to keep our clients informed as their matter progresses, and to be available to answer queries as they arise.

The firm undertakes work in the areas of conveyancing and property law, wills, probate and the administration of estates, family law, and employment law. Further information in relation to each of these areas may be obtained by clicking on the relevant heading on the left hand side of this page. Should the matter upon which you require advice fall outside these areas, we will be pleased either to assist you directly or, where appropriate, to refer you to a colleague who practises in the relevant field.

Both of the partners in the firm are experienced practitioners who have appeared in the District Court and the Circuit Court in this Circuit over a great number of years, and who are well known to clients throughout the midland region. The firm is a member of the Law Society of Ireland and all of its solicitors hold current practising certificates issued by that body. Professional indemnity insurance is in place in accordance with the requirements of the Solicitors Acts.

We are situated on Clonbrook Street, a short walk from Custume Place and the town centre, with parking available nearby. Callers are welcome during office hours, although we would ask that an appointment be made in advance wherever possible so that the appropriate member of staff is available to meet you and so that your file may be brought to hand before you arrive. Initial enquiries may be made by telephone to the number given on the left hand side of this page, or by post to the address shown above.

Recent developments in the law

Clients may be aware that a considerable body of new legislation has come into force in recent years affecting the sale and purchase of land, the registration of title, and the rights of employees. The Land and Conveyancing Law Reform Act 2009 in particular has made a number of significant changes to the law of property in this jurisdiction. We keep ourselves fully appraised of such developments through continuing professional development and through the guidance issued from time to time by the Law Society, and we would be happy to discuss with you the effect, if any, which these changes may have on your own affairs.
